OLDER people who struggle with IT and the internet are being offered special courses to help them cope.
Age UK is organising an itea and biscuits week from Monday September 20.
The charity has revealed more than 6.4 million people aged over 65 have never used the internet and is trying to make sure people don’t miss out on the benefits it brings.
Essex Cares is taking part in the campaign by offering drop-in sessions at day centres in Colchester and Manningtree.
The first will be held between 10am and 11.30am, on Wednesday, September 22, at Shrublands Day Centre, Shrub End Road.
It will cover using e-mail and accessing local services and online shopping.
The second, from 1.30pm to 3pm, is a taster session for the Wii game system and is focused on wellbeing and fitness.
The same sessions will be held at the same times, on Friday September 24, at the Foundry Court Day Centre in Manningtree.
Mark Lloyd, managing director of Essex Cares, said: “With so much technology available now-a-days, especially items such as Wiis and brain trainers which we are seeing more and more of our service users investing in, itea and biscuits is a great opportunity to ensure that we can help people to get the most out of their purchases and use them to their advantage.”
All sessions are free. To book a place call Wendy Howes on 01206 364863.
