HOMEOWNERS in Colchester are being warned about scam artists claiming to be offering repairs endorsed by Colchester Council.

Residents are being called on the telephone or visited on their doorsteps claiming that the council is endorsing repairs usually linked to new kitchens, plumbing or general repairs.

Targets included a 70-year-old who caught out two males trying to get into her home.

But the council has said it would not endorse private companies.
