Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has become the second multi-national firm to pull out of opening up in Frinton.
Last week the Evening Gazette revealed the company had put in plans for an empty part of the Harwood store in Connaught Avenue.
It wanted to make alterations to the outside of part of the building and install a cash machine, along with advertisement consent from Tendring Council.
However, the firm has now changed its mind.
Tesco had also looked at taking over the empty part of the site earlier this year but it also dropped out of the running when there was a campaign and a surge of opposition to its bid.
Mike Page, public relations manager for Tendring Council, said it had withdrawn its plans.
Wendy Simon, of Frinton Chamber of Commerce, said she was pleased a second multi-national had decided aginst going ahead with its bid.
She said traders were keen to see independents operating in Connaught Avenue wherever possible.
