Benfleet have enjoyed mixed fortunes in outside cup competitions.

In the Essex Intermediate Cup they crashed out at the fourth round stage when hosts West Essex beat them 5-0.

However, in an all-Essex Intermediate League affair in the second round of the Senior Southend Charity Competition, they won 2-0 at Stambridge - both goals coming from Cartledge.

In the league, Rayleigh Town changed places with Ekco First Data and moved into fifth spot in Senior Division One when they won 1-0 with a Thompson goal.

Runwell Hospital triumphed 5-2 over Essex Police with Highstead, Hughes, Weeks, Rimmell and Carter on target.

A double from Standley saw Shell Club win 2-1 at Eppingsale in Senior Division Two. After reaching the dizzy heights of second place, White Notley once again dropped vital points when they lost 1-0 at home to Stambridge. Rippington got the only goal.

There was local derby action as fourth placed Laindon Athletic travelled to Chalvedon looking for a win to stay in contention.

However, the game went the way of the home side when a goal from Waldon gave them their fourth league win to stay sixth.
