With their other championship rivals out of action this weekend, Great Wakering Rovers and Bowers United will be out to steal a march in their respective bids for the Schweppes Essex Senior League title on Saturday.

Wakering will go top if they manage to pick up a point at East Ham -despite suffering a blow to their ambitions on Tuesday when held to a 2-2 draw at old rivals Southend Manor.

Bowers, unbeaten in a seven-match run since they returned to their League programme after a weather-enforced break - should collect the points at Stansted.

Southend Manor should give themselves a healthy push up the table in the next few days with victory at home to Brentwood tomorrow being followed by success at Southchurch Park against Stansted on Tuesday.

Basildon United entertain bottom club Eton Manor in the Harry Fisher Memorial Trophy tomorrow and will take on Saffron Walden in the semi-finals if successful.

In a busy week of midweek action, Basildon are at Sawbridgeworth on Tuesday with Burnham at Hullbridge and unbeaten Saffron Walden visiting Concord.

Bowers home in on East Ham next Wednesday with Ilford meeting Eton Manor.
