An inquest was yesterday due to hear how a 16-year-old girl was found dead at the foot of a multi-storey car park on the day she was due to take a German GCSE examination.

Amy Burgess had told teachers at the Philip Morant School in Colchester that she could not face the oral test.

Teachers tried to reassure her and had planned to reschedule the examination for another day.

About half an hour after she was seen leaving the school gates, her body was found at the foot of a car park in Colchester town centre, about a mile away.

The school said Amy was an articulate and intelligent pupil who had nothing to worry about in her examinations.

Amy should have learned of her GCSE grades today.
