Two goals from player/manager Steve Parnell were enough to see Tiptree through to the next round of the FA Cup.

Parnell's first goal, which was a thunderbolt shot, after the ball had run loose in the penalty area, came five minutes into the second half.

The second goal, a volley from Richard Whymark's cross, wrapped the game up with five minutes remaining.

Colney could consider themselves unlucky, especially as they had a strong appeal for a goal turned down midway through the second half.

A shot came off the underside of the bar and seemed to cross the goaline before bouncing out.

However, the referee and his assistant remained unconvinced and Tiptree were able to go on and clinch the game just before time.

This all came after a first half where Colney seemed slightly on top of proceedings, although the first clear cut chance fell to Tony French of Tiptree when he scuffed a close range shot straight at the goalkeeper.

The home defence held firm, with Wayne Houghton commanding in the air, and Tiptree played their way back into the game.

Richard Carter and Parnell had opportunities to break the deadlock before the player-manager's second half strikes.

This result for Tiptree means that they are one of the few local sides to go into the next round where they will entertain Witney on September 4.
