A mentally ill man who killed himself by taking a cocktail of prescription drugs and alcohol had planned to start a new life in Germany, an inquest has heard.
Unemployed Roger Griesel, 29, was being treated at Basildon Hospital for paranoid schizophrenia.
He was found dead on a sofa in his home on May 25 this year by friend Trevor Bailey. A post-mortem found he had died of a mixed drug overdose.
Chelmsford Coroner's Court heard how, under his treatment, Mr Griesel, of Clay Hill Road, Basildon, had met with his doctor on a number of occasions throughout April and May.
In a statement read out to the court, Mr Griesel's doctor reported how his patient had seemed happier with his life during the meetings.
However, he had refused Mr Griesel's request for more drugs after he claimed he lost his original dose.
According to his father Frederick's statement, Mr Griesel had made several attempts on his life previously.
The statement also told how Mr Griesel had spoken about starting a new life in Germany.
Recording her verdict, coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray said: "Mr Griesel took his own life. He killed himself while the balance of his mind was disturbed."
