Mersea Island Rugby Club Ladies are waiting on a funding decision.

The new team is in talks with Colchester United Sports Trust regarding a cash boost to get them up and running.

The Trust's decision will be revealed at the club's annual meeting on Thursday.

The ladies, who train every Wednesday night at the East Mersea Youth Camp, also have their fingers crossed that their application to play in the Women's Rugby Football Union Eastern League next season will be accepted.

Joey Powell, who is co-founder of the club with Emma Butler, said: "The sports trust is very keen to get the club set up. But we will know more after the meeting.

"We will also know whether the league has accepted our application."

Any ladies who would like to find out more about the club should contact Powell on 01206 386701
