Wivenhoe Town owe me money, too

A CARPENTER says he has no sympathy for homeless Wivenhoe Town FC because the football club still owes him for work he did for them two years ago.

The club, nicknamed the Dragons, have been locked out of their Broad Lane ground because the trust which manages it says it is owed £10,000 in rent.

Supporters of the Ridgeons League side claim the trustees are being unreasonable and using the financial dispute as an excuse to get the club off the site.

But Dedham joiner Mark Sycamore is sympathetic to Wivenhoe and District Sporting Facilities Trust’s claims it is owed money.

He says the club still owe him £100 for repair work and changing the locks in an office at the ground, following a burglary in August 2008.

Mr Sycamore, of AB Carpentry, which specialises in repair work following break-ins, said: “I can relate to what the trust is doing.

“I’m still waiting to be paid by the club, despite having sent many letters and had no reply.

“They wouldn’t run out of Tesco without paying for their shopping, so they shouldn’t think they can get away with doing it to a carpenter or a sports trust.”

Nick Murphy-Whymark, from the club, said he had no knowledge of the unpaid bill because it dated from the time before the current management took over in the autumn of 2008.

He said: “If the guy wants to talk to the chairman, they might be able to work something out.

“At the time when our administration came in, we were getting volunteers to help cut the grass and paint the place and all sorts, because there was no money left.

“There were players who were owed thousands of pounds and it was just impossible to pay them, because of mistakes made before our time.”

Efforts to resolve the differences between the trust and the football club are continuing, with local councillors and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin, the club’s patron, trying to help broker a deal.

Blimey that must be a special £100, if I had not got it after two years I think I would assume I was never going to get it and write it off and make sure I never did work for them again. At £1 per week I think I would have better things to do and I don't know why this snooze paper has given this space?

"They wouldn’t run out of Tesco without paying for their shopping", well you would hope not. Tesco's also wouldn't give them the shopping without taking the money for it. You should have got a cheque on your way out of the door.....

What a stupid thing this man has said!!! He has no sympathy for the CURRENT Wivenhoe Town FC because the PREVIOUS officials owe him money. True, you would'nt run out of Tesco's without paying, by the same token you would not blame Tesco for short changing you if it was Sainsburys that did it!!!! Your 15 seconds of fame is now over and I would imagine you have lose custom over your silly remarks.

If somebody does a job he should expect to be paid, surely?

Just because the owners have changed doesn't mean he isn't still owed the money! Perhaps the supporters should put their hands in their pockets for these debts, rather than go on this stupid march, which is a total waste of time.

Agree about the content though - certainly not a newsworthy item. Only glad I don't buy this silly paper, just read what I want on line in case there is something remotely interesting about where I live.

What a silly stupid pratt you are. Would you hire a taxi and not pay for it then? Seems that you would. This man has costs for fuel to run his van , road tax for Gordon Browns coffers and insurance plus the man has to pay national insurance stamps. Does it come free ? Certainly not.

Who is the 'silly stupid prat' (spelt correctly now) Somebody who does work without getting paid, then waits over 2 years to try to get his money, from people who don't actually owe it to him or somebody who seems to agree with him. He was a prat to do the work without getting paid, an even bigger prat to wait for 2 years to try to get it back and a total prat for blaming the current officials of Wivenhoe Town FC who never even ran it 2 years ago.

Quote "Just because the owners have changed does'nt mean he is'nt still owed the money". So if he did some carpentry on a house and never got paid, then you brought that house are you saying that YOU should then pay him? That is what you appear to say in your post.

Grow up and talk sense!

The football club is dead. No talent, no money, and no ground to play on.

There is a life outside of football - thank goodness, go and get some of it!
