AN independent planning inspector will begin examining Colchester’s Local Development Framework next Tuesday.
Laura Chase, planning policy manager at Colchester Council, said the authority opposed the housing proposals, which were submitted at the last minute, meaning letters of objection sent afterwards could not be accepted.
She said: “Private developers wishing to build on sites in the Dedham and Langham area have lodged an objection because their proposed development is not included in the council’s plan.
“The council does not consider this to be a robust proposal for development.
“The Government inspector now has the responsibility to examine the Local Development Framework document, and consider if this development should be included.
“Langham Parish Council and councillor Garnett will be assisting council officers at the examination in defending the council’s position.”
Bernard Jenkin, MP for North Essex, has written to Planning Minister John Healey asking him to intervene. He said: “Public consultation is an important way of listening to local people’s views and making sure they are taken into account.
“There is something wrong with the process if it can be undermined like this.
“I have urged the minister to take immediate action to clear up this loophole and ensure that everyone who wanted to have their say can do so.”
