POLICE in the south of Colchester are offering residents free security checks on their homes in a bid to prevent more burglaries.
The checks are being offered at a crime reduction event tomorrow.
Residents can also get their bikes security-coded so it can be easily traced if stolen.
Police community support officer Harriet Cooper explained: “There has been an increase in burglaries all over the county and so we’re keen to make sure that no more residents in south Colchester become part of this statistic.
“We’ve held three events so far, and the last one will take place at Brittany Way on the Barnhall Estate tomorrow between noon and 3pm.
“We will be available to chat over any concerns about security that residents may have, and will also be able to arrange for an officer to carry out a security survey on your home."
