BUDDING journalists could see their articles in print while raising money in memory of 12-year-old Jodi O’Rahilly.
The youngster, from the St Anne’s area of Colchester, died from a rare bone marrow disorder, severe aplastic anaemia.
Her parents, Laura and Dominic, have vowed to raise money for the Sick Children’s Trust, which runs a home for the families of children who are in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
The Gazette has joined forces with Jodi’s parents to help with a competition for pupils at her former primary school, Willow Brook, and secondary school, St Helena. Children will pay a nominal entrance fee to write an article on a chosen subject.
The best story will be printed in the Gazette and the winner will also get to be a mascot for Colchester United.
Jodi’s funeral is at Colchester Crematorium on Tuesday, at 11am. Anyone who knew her is invited.
The family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers to be sent to the Sick Children’s Trust, Acorn House, c/o Hunnaball of Colchester, York House, 41 Mersea Road, Colchester, CO2 7QT.
