Lord Hanningfield makes first appearance in court

LORD Hanningfield, former leader of Essex County Council, appeared in court yesterday charged with making false expenses claims.

Wearing a grey suit, the 69-year-old appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court and said he would deny charges of wrongly claiming for "repayment of travelling and other expenses".

One charge states that on or about April 1, 2009, at Westminster, he made a dishonest claim for travelling allowances.

The charge states he: "purported to show that you were entitled to be paid expenses when the conditions entitled you to payment of such expenses had not been fulfilled".

Hanningfield, whose real name is Paul White, faces six charges of false accounting, relating to claims for overnight allowances from the House of Lords between 2006 and 2009, when records allegedly show he was in fact driven to his home near Chelmsford.

The sums he claimed were between £150 and £170.

Hanningfield was released on unconditional bail to appear at Southwark Crown Court on March 30.

The slimy shyster said on the telly he had given 40 years public service and never been paid a penny!! What a liar - he not only had a very generous allowance as a county councillor and latterly leader, but his expenses as a Lord too. And that's without anything he's found guilty of stealing.

Why isn't Jenkin in court with this lot of thieves? Looking at the other MPs charges, he seems to have fiddled more than any of them. He stiffed us for £60,000, complains about it and has it reduced to £30,000 but that's OK is it?
It looks as though the CPS haven't got enough computing power to work out Lord Haw Haws fiddles.

I want to see him found guilty and treated like the common criminal he is.

The fact he is trying to use parlimentary privilege to get out of his crimes against the taxpayer makes it even more revolting.

Shame on you.

I think he has had far too much parlimentary privilege already, how many other times has he lined his filthy pockets before this came to light? With regards to Jenkin I think it will be slowly, slowly catchy monkee and that the police are taking bite size chunks. Why else would they be doing the little villans first?
