SUSPECTED drunken joyriders were tracked down by police dogs after they tried to flee the scene of a crash.
The two men, aged 22 and 19, were found in the middle of a field, about a quarter of a mile from the scene of the collision.
The pair, both from Enfield in North London, were arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taking a motor vehicle.
However, their first call was to Colchester General Hospital, where they had to be treated for injuries before police could question them.
Both men have now been released from hospital, and have been bailed to return to Colchester Police station today.
Police had been called to the London-bound carriageway of the A12 near Langham at around 4.30am yesterday, where a red Ford Escort had crashed into the central reservation and overturned.
They called out police dog handlers to track down the driver.
The two men were discovered in a field near Langham church.
Sgt Jason Dearsley from Stanway road police unit said: “It was good team work from the dog handlers and traffic units.”
Traffic police are appealing for anyone who can help their investigation to contact them on 0300 3334444.
