HELP! Is Ringo Starr staying somewhere in Colchester?
Shoppers in and around the town have stood open-mouthed in amazement after apparently spotting the former Beatle around the borough.
He is rumoured to have visited Colchester’s Aldi store yesterday morning, before stopping off at Currys at the Tollgate retail park, Stanway, at lunchtime.
He came out of the electrical store carrying a large box.
Both witnesses said they could not believe their eyes, reporting the 69-year-old drummer mingling with other shoppers.
A spokesman for Currys confirmed Starr had shopped in store, in the past. She added: “He was in our Tollgate store on Monday – he bought a Dyson.”
Staff at the Aldi store said if Ringo had been in store, no one had recognised him.
Throughout yesterday the Gazette received calls from people in the town claiming to have spotted him at various locations, from the Middleborough car park to Mann’s Music, in the High Street.
Darren Christopher, 22, a student at the University of Essex, said: “He was flicking through the records and people were going up and asking for autographs.”
