Wellies and woollies fly off the shelves

WELLIES and sturdy footwear are avalanching off the shelves.

Snow and ice is causing chaos across the country, but a handful of traders are benefiting from the big freeze.

Priceless Shoes in High Street, Colchester has placed the boots in large boxes throughout the shop in response to demand.

Katie Goulden, from the store, said: “Since morning we have had just one customer who bought something other than Wellington boots. The sales are so high we have met our target already this month."

The sale of waterproof boots at Clarks has gone up along with the water repellent spray for leather boots.

Shoe Zone has also witnessed a similar pattern in their sales.

At Jack’s hardware store in the town centre, partner Dave Williams said while they had still had boots in stock, shovels and sledges had temporarily sold out.
