COLLEGE students have showed their backing for a famous alumni.

X Factor finalist Olly Murs studied sport and recreation at Braintree College between 2001 and 2003.

And current students showed they are backing him all the way when a film crew from ITV's Xtra Factor programme dropped in to do some filming.

Tutors who taught Olly at the time were also invited back to comment on his success.

Alan Smart, now a tutor at Colchester Institute, said: “We are watching and supporting Olly. He shows the cheekiness and flare that he demonstrated in college. We hope he can go all the way.”

Current sports and recreation tutor Anna Simon was herself a student and Olly was a year ahead of her in his studies when he became her course mentor.

She said: “He often entertained us with impromptu singing and dance and was a charismatic entertainer back then. I’m not surprised he has star quality.”
