SKATEPARK users no longer run the risk of getting caught in the rain.
Skaters and bikers, who use the Boada Skate Bowl, on the junction of Boadicea Way and Layer Road, in Shrub End, Colchester, have welcomed a shelter, where they can escape the elements.
Steve Oliver, 16, a pupil at Colchester’s Alderman Blaxhill School, said: “It’s a lot better now. If it rains, we’ve somewhere to go.”
Lyn Barton, Colchester councillor for Shrub End, said: “The youngsters have been involved every step of the way with designing this.”
Residents have previously voiced concerns about excessive noise and litter from the skatepark.
Mrs Barton said she had spoken to police community support officers and area wardens and the problem was coming under control.
The shelter, funded by the Cory Environmental Trust, is part of £30,000 of improvements at the site.
