A STOWAWAY cat who survived a trip from Egypt to the UK on a container ship is recuperating in Colchester.
The ginger and white Tom, named Pharaoh by his rescuers, was found in a freight depot a month after the ship left Port Said.
RSPCA officers collected Pharaoh and he is being looked after at Par Air Services quarantine cattery, in Lexden.
Pharaoh has been checked for rabies and other problems and will have to stay in quarantine before he is rehomed.
Jean Parish, from Pan Air, said: “When you get cats out of containers quite often they’re wild, feral cats that lived on the docks. But I’m sure he must have had a very loving home because of the way he is with people.”
“He was not in the worst state but he wasn’t in the best of conditions either.”
