THE chairman of governors at a Colchester secondary school has defended plans for a controversial link road.
Lorna Kean, chairman of governors at Philip Morant School, said the proposed route would improve safety at the school for staff, pupils and visitors and residents in Prettygate.
The planned road, cutting through a field off Norman Way, known locally as the Green, has prompted an angry response from residents.
In a letter to the Gazette, Mrs Kean said the governors are concerned about the “misinformation” being distributed in the community.
She said permission was granted on appeal in 1999 and the planning inspector said “there is a pressing need for new access arrangements for the school”. FULL REPORT, REACTION AND LETTER IN TODAY'S GAZETTE
