Jaywick man jailed for Christmas day stabbing

A MAN has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for a knife attack.

John Collis, 23, formerly from Jaywick but now living in Spalding, Lincolnshire, stabbed a 35-year-old man seven times with a kitchen knife during an argument.

The victim suffered a punctured lung, was in hospital for two weeks and needed plastic surgery on other wounds following the attack on Christmas day last year.

Collis admitted wounding with intent to cause grevious bodily harm at Chelmsford Crown Court and was sentenced to 54 months imprisonment.

Det Con Rob Dines from Clacton CID said: "Collis admitted he had taken drugs and drunken alcohol prior to assaulting his victim with a kitchen knife.

"This case shows the dangers of picking up a weapon to resolve a dispute.

"Collis is fortunate that he is not facing a murder charge as his victim was lucky not to have received a fatal blow."
