Head suspended after unruly pupils put 'in cupboard'

A HEADTEACHER has been suspended following allegations that he put children in a “cupboard”.

Coppins Green Primary School head Stuart Livingstone, and one other member of staff, were suspended from their positions by the school’s chair of governors, pending an investigation.

The school, in Melbourne Road, Clacton, is now being run by Anna Conley, head of first school, and Sue Mann, head of upper and middle school.

well as the old saying goes.. you can't argue with stupidity! it doesn't matter how many times the parents of the "unruly" children are told that this is not a padded cell, no longer a cupboard and their children are not held in there for hours all they see is the fact that their little darlings are being punished for simply.. what? expressing themselves? never mind the disruption to other pupils, never mind the risk to members of staff and of course to the child itself.. I wonder how these parents would have the school deal with their child when because it has no idea of basic manners or self discipline it becomes so frustrated that it throws itself on the floor spitting swearing and kicking anyone who goes near? This school has the almost outdated idea of rewarding good behaviour and punishing bad,and for that the minority are unhappy. most are from the estates and are themselves poorly educated, perhaps because their own parents took them out of school at the first sign that the child was being disruptive so therefore punished? it goes on, how many generations do we need to go through before the child is absolutely unable to function at all in general society? To most parents the "quiet room" will never be an issue because the majority of children at the school are polite disciplined and eager to learn, but the "campaigning minority" have won, hopefully just a tiny battle by forcing the suspension of Mr Livingstone, lets hope for everyone that they don't win the war!

Daisiemaytulip.
Lovely to see some of the parents at Coppins Green have some sense.
I just hope those who have caused this massive disruption are proud of themselves.

What a joke - this headteacher will probably lose his job now all for the sake of some little sh*ts who don't know how to behave themselves and their parents who would sue at the drop of a hat if they could just. I feel sorry for the poor bloke.

Well said Daisie. This is symptomatic of what is wrong with society today. A group of uneducated parents, who are quite happy to let their equally uneducated offspring create havoc, but then complain when the school tries to introduce some discipline and respect into their "little chavs". These are the sort of people who believe the world owes them a living. They have no respect for authority, people, property or even themselves, and are content only to drag others down to their own squalid level. The only mistake this headteacher has made is not excluding this rabble from school altogether. At least that would give the decent children, from decent families, the opportunity of being educated in an environment free from these no-hopers!

Governors are quick to suspend teachers and headmasters - but when a child is clearly disrupting other children at the school, they are not so quick to suspend the child. I take my hat off to teachers these days. They not only have to deal with disruptive children, but also abusive parents and are treading on egg shells hoping they are not going to upset the parents or be sued - when all they want to do is what they were trained to do - teach!

Children misbehave at school, they get put into isolation. When the children misbehave at home I bet they are 'sent to their rooms'. What's the difference?
No xbox?

put a sign on the door of the cupboard saying "THE NAUGHTY STEP!" the kids will soon change their behaviour!

Punishment makes you a victim.
Any reward is discriminatory unless applied to all.

What a wonderful society we have become!

Suppose the parents will sue next. It seems now adays a child has to nearly kill someone to get suspended.
Too many do gooders about. Sooner the cane is brought back the better.
Too many crafty cockneys moving into Clacton now thinking they own the place. Shame really as Clacton used to be a lovely town. They have been there and done it all. Just hope they never make it to Harwich.

Have to agree with the undertaker. Clacton has been steadily declining as a result of the cockney chav element. It's pretty depressing walking around Clacton these days, a bit like a massive Jeremy Kyle audience walking the streets. I've never seen such a high percentage of unintelligent sub human creatures in one town, and unfortunately it's on the increase!!

I used to go to that school about ten years ago. There were the same number of chavs around, but the old teachers didn't need a cupboard to lokc people in

Children need discipline but if it's gone downhill enough that they need to lock kids in cupboards just to keep order, then the headteacher should go for being useless

The way schools are going nowadays there should be a holding cell and warden especially appointed to the job, let alone a cupboard.

Donvaldo, re: "I've never seen such a high percentage of unintelligent sub human creatures in one town, and unfortunately it's on the increase!!" There should be a hyphen in 'sub human' and you need only one exclamation remark.

MrH, and so did I, in response to the 'unintelligent' remark, which - I admit - may have been too subtle. And it's 'donvaldo'

Intelligence may be under new 'managment' - perhaps the missing letter 'E' is in the cupboard, along with the proper spelling of 'exclamation'.

Corporate, you're such a loser. Typos happen here, mostly by Gazette reporters - get over it.

Gideon Smythe, Wivenhoe says...

Now, now, some of us posters will have to go into the naughty cupboard.

Why can't we lock these cocky little ****s in a cupboard? (and I did mean 'lock') I still don't understand why we can no longer threaten them with a good beating too.

No wonder kids and youngsters are so badly behaved now. What can you do? Tell them to stop misbehaving? "Or what" comes the reply, "Or, we'll write a fairly strongly-worded letter suggesting that there may be discipline issues and that should said issues continue then a parent/teacher meeting may be required to look at how best to manage you"

Hardly strikes the fear of god into them does it. Get that cane out and give 'em a good old hiding.

corporate, Harwich says...
5:58pm Tue 10 Nov 09

MrH, I am over it; I merely highlight the fact that those who question intelligence are often the ones who show little evidence of it. I don't think you can blame Gazette reporters for your own errors. But as far as cupboards are concerned, teachers have little leeway in dealing with unruly pupils, and perhaps a return to the 'good old days' - where discipline reigned - may be required; alas not in the near future, I fear
