UNIONS have warned cuts to staff at Stansted Airport could impact on passengers going away at Christmas.
Swissport, which handles the services on the ground for Ryanair at the terminal, plans to axe 90 workers by the end of this month. GMB regional officer Gary Pearce said talks had reached an impasse in relation to the redundancies.
He added: “There is also stalemate over a 90-day notice to introduce a new shift system for the rest of the ground service staff from December 12.”
GMB is concerned cutting staff and introducing the new shift system could lead to disruption for passengers on flights in the run up to Christmas.
A spokesman for Swissport said: “Whilst most staffing level changes are absorbed by attrition, occasionally we have to make redundancies.”
