FEARS are mounting a village will be unable to cope with a mass influx of people if new housing plans go ahead.

In the past century Tiptree has seen its population rise from less than 1,000 in 1901 to 11,000 today.

The borough council has now put forward proposals which would see the village expand further by listing three new sites as suitable for new homes.

However, residents fear any more development could squeeze services to the limit in a village where the population density is already three times the national average.
