So Bob...how do you feel about England?

COLCHESTER MP Bob Russell has been challenged to “explain his stance towards England”.

Eddie Bone, vice president of Workers of England Union, has called for the Lib Dem MP to explain his involvement with the East of England Regional Grand Committee.

The committee’s first meeting was abandoned when it was boycotted by Tory MPs.

Mr Bone, of Nelson Road, Colchester, said Mr Russell has kept “very quiet” about his involvement in the committee, which brings MPs from across the region together to debate issues.

He said: “What is an MP, who is supposed to represent Colchester, doing travelling 100 miles across the country to chair a committee with no power?

“By attending, Mr Russell has made his stance clear, that he believes in the regionalisation of England.

“Our stance is there should be an English parliament to match what they have in Wales and Scotland, to retain England’s national identity and voice.”

Mr Bone was among protesters from the union, the Campaign for an English Parliament, and the English Democrats political party, which picketed Tuesday’s committee meeting.

It failed to go ahead after less than 17 MPs turned up, the number needed to form a committee.

He continued: “Millions of pounds are being wasted on regional government that would be better spent on helping unemployed people.

“We are calling for a referendum on having an English parliament, and will respect whatever result comes back.”

Mr Russell said Mr Bone was entitled to his views, but pointed out the committee had been created after a vote by a democratically-elected parliament.

He said: “That’s certainly a view and in a democratic society he is perfectly entitled to express that view. I’m not aware that his organisation has ever contested general elections.”

Yes Mr Russell where do you stand on England?

Why is Bob Russell this unelected quango?

England needs its own Parliament.

Colcheter needs to be a Unitary Authority.

These people appear to be self appointed to an unknown lobby group unlike Bob Russell who has been elected to Parliament as a member of which, no doubt, he gets asked to go to all sorts of meetings he may or may not agree with. Personally I think the unelected quango that is the Regional Assembly stinks, but if as I understand it the Tories plan to scrap it after the election next year then as far as I'm concerned it's now a non-issue.
I imagine we all have one thing in common - England for the World Cup - so let's just agree on that.

So Crosby you are saying that the man in the photograph has no right to protest against this unelected quango because he or the group he represents wasn't elected to Parliament.

Is it any wonder that the country is in the toilet and so many English people want to leave it.

WOW! so much for the right to protest.

There is no guarantee that the Tories will win the next election or that they will scrap these quangos.

If I were Bob I'd feel great about England whilst I was still being allowed to put by council tax down to expensis!

I don't care about England as I am British and proud of it. What I do care about is Colchester and how it is being destroyed by those idiots in County Hall in Chelmsford. Stop house building now. Save our schools now. Home rule for Colchester now!

Memo to Bob Russell :
The good people of Colchester were not given a chance to vote on whether they wanted an East of England Regional Assembly. It is yet another socialist quango, foisted on us whether we like it or not.
In 2004,voters in the north east overwhelmingly rejected a regional
assembly by 696,519(78 per cent)
to 197,310(22 per cent).
John Prescott, then deputy prime minister, said : "The North East people
have answered in an emphatic way.I am a democrat and I accept that."
Labour then went ahead and introduced regional assemblies anyway.
Oh,and by the way, Mr Russell,is the report in the Daily Telegraph's The Complete Expenses Files (see page fifty eight) true and accurate and did you really charge taxpayers £950 for a new boiler,£250 a month in mortgage interest payments, and £90
for gardening?.If so,will you be repaying any of this money to Colchester taxpayers who have suffered so much in the recession?
Mr Bone : Well done and keep up the good work.

Of course he can protest, but who the hell are the Workers For England Union? And who elected him Vice President? Himself I reckon!

To Crosby

You changed your tune fairly quick.

All of a sudden you now think it is OK for people to protest.

With regard to your point about "who elected him title of Vice President"?

What does that have to do with anything?

Have you noticed that Britain has a communist who calls himself Prime Minisiter who is hated by his own party and most of the country?

Your comments seem to be based on intelligent gathering of information. I for one, wouldn't wish to comment on most of what you have said. There is however there is one item referring to Bob Russell's expenses that I will take issue with. RB Colchester should remember the old cliche about throwing stones in a glasshouse. I think the issue of Mr Bernard Jenkins falsley claiming 50k of taxpayers money for his Sister in Law's house sounds like alot of glass breaking!!
