Clacton Gazette backs anti-dog fouling drive

CLEAN it up! That’s the message from our Clacton-based weekly paper and the new team in charge of Jaywick’s regeneration.

The Clacton Gazette, our sister paper, has joined forces with Jaywick Strategic Leadership Group to keep local beaches clear of dog fouling.

The resort has one of the finest beaches in Tendring, but sadly, residents and visitors have not always taken the trouble to keep it clean and safe from dog mess.

Now, residents are being invited to take pride in their area, and leave it as clean as they found it, for others to enjoy.

Dog mess can spread parasites which cause blindness and when left on the beaches it is a particular risk to youngsters playing in the sand.

Dog-fouling is also an offence and anyone caught not cleaning up after their dog faces a £50 fixed penalty, or as much as £1,000 if the case ends up before a court.

Strategic group chairman Lord Hanningfield said: “We are committed to improving wellbeing and quality of life for those living in and visiting Jaywick.”

The campaign will start with a six-week programme of beach cleaning over the summer season. Free poop-bags are available from the Jaywick Strategic Leadership Group’s office in Lotus Way, Jaywick.

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to back this particular campaign at Jaywick Beach.

“Our environmental services department will be supplying the bags as part of the initiative.”

Much like the rest of Jaywick then.

Whilst dog mess is dangerous, a horrible sight and very unpleasant Jaywicks main problems are over the other side of the sea wall.
If ever there was a place that needs cleaning up this is it, or rather just razed to the ground then the brooklands area should be flattened.
To hell with their motormouth burit just erase this eyesore once and for all.
It's an embarrassment for Tendring, an embarrassment for Essex and an embarrassment for any civilised country.

Where is this drive that the Gazette is backing? What's wrong with a street, or a road, or even an avenue? I think the Gazette is backing a bum idea.
