POLICE are appealing for witnesses to two attempted burglaries at sports clubs in Colchester.
Officers in the town received reports that a man was trying to break into the West End Tennis Club, in Eudo Road, and the West End Bowls Club, in Circular Road.
When they arrived at the scene, they spotted a man running away. Despite repeated calls by officers, the suspect refused to stop.
A police dog was sent after him, and managed to catch the man, holding on to his arm.
The suspected burglar managed to free himself though, and ran off.
Nothing was taken from either sports club.
Police believe the man may have been injured during the incident, and are appealing for anyone who knows him or who may have treated him to come forward.
Inspector Adrian Dearsley, from Colchester police, said: “We would urge anyone who has any information about this incident to get in touch.
“We think the man may have injured himself as he broke free from the dog.
“Do you know anyone who has suffered an injury similar to this? Please, get in touch.”
The attempted burglaries happened at about 5am on June 30.
Anyone with information should contact PC Paul Austin at Colchester police station on 0300 3334444.
