A driver hit me and then just drove off

A MOTORCYCLIST who suffered a broken ankle in a hit and run crash has called on the driver to surrender to police.

Kay McShane fractured her left ankle and bruised her hips and back when she was knocked off her bike in Old Heath Road, Colchester.

My leg is knackered and my bike is in bits, all because of what happened.

Doctors have told her she may also have sustained tendon and ligament damage in her foot which could take a long time to heal.

The 38-year-old, who had whiplash in her neck since the crash, slammed the motorist involved for driving off without stopping, as she said they could not have known whether she was dead or alive.

She said: “They just didn’t bother to stop.

“My leg is knackered and my bike is in bits, all because of what happened.

“Whoever it was needs to hand themselves in because just driving off like that is a serious offence.”

Mrs McShane, 38, whose husband is a motorcycle instructor, was turning into her own drive on her Honda CBR 600, worth more than £3,000, when the crash happened.

She says the bike has been written off.

Mr McShane added: “Apart from anything else, we need to find out who it was so we know who to claim off on the insurance.”

Police are looking to trace a blue Peugeot 106 registered K945 FRA.

PC Stephen Cross, of Stanway road policing unit, said: “If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of that vehicle, we would ask them to get in touch.

“Kay had quite a serious injury and the driver made no attempt to stop. They must be fully aware they knocked a motorcyclist off their bike but they didn’t stop to make any inquiries or show concern.”

He said anyone with information should call him on 0300 333 4444.

Good job she got the car's registration number. Let's hope it wasn't stolen.
Supposedly the police can trace car owners instantly via the car's number. In which case why don't they just go there and arrest the owner or get him/her to identify the driver?

There must be sound reason why no trace has been found Boris.

All that saying though, lets hope the young lady gets well soon, a bike is just a bike although how much she loves it.

The good news is the Dyson hoover in back of picture will need someone else to push it around her house if Kay cannot manage it on her sticks.
