A THORPE-based charity is looking for knitters to produce much-needed items for poor villagers in Africa.
Volunteers are needed by Benin Christian Support, to replace a dedicated team of charity knitters which has just packed up its needles.
For the past four years, knitters from Walton Women’s Institute have been making teddies, children’s tops, premature baby clothes and baby blankets for the impoverished villagers in Benin.
Charity treasurer and founder Maureen Sanders paid tribute to the Walton women and said she hoped other knitters would take up the challenge and knit more clothing.
The charity is also raising funds to help two children in Benin who desperately need surgery. One 15-year-old needs to have a large, possibly life-threatening tumour removed from her neck.
The other operation is needed by an 11-year-old boy who had an accident four years ago and has a badly dislocated knee, which needs to be reset, as the the boy’s leg is withering.
Anyone who can help the children and the charity can contact 01255 862618.
