A FLOOD risk map has revealed the whole of Heybridge could be under threat.

The map, which was developed by consultants for Maldon Council, shows the areas at risk and is designed to help the council allocate land for development.

The areas in red, which make up the majority of the plan, represent a high hazard of flooding. Orange depicts a medium risk, with a low risk highlighted in yellow.

Some northern parts of the village heading towards Great Totham are said to be at no risk.

The map came to light after a resident raised concerns with planning officials that it had not been publicised well.

The council said it displayed the map at the recent consultation event, and has been made available as part of the process in developing the Local Development Framework. It is also published on its website.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said: “Until today, it appeared to be buried in the small print.

“It seems that suddenly they decided to make it available, but they have still not drawn public attention to the level of flood risk affecting the community in Heybridge.”
