TRAFFIC wardens could be told to use new powers to stop parents blocking dropped kerbs outside a Frinton college.
Tendring Council has revealed it is considering using fresh Traffic Management Act legislation to solve problems on Rochford Way, Frinton, near to Tendring Technology College.
Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said fining drivers for the offence might be a possibility, but the authority is waiting for more information about how powers under the Act should be used.
He said: “Tendring Council is issuing warnings to motorists who block dropped kerbs until such times as the situation is further clarified by the Government, which is expected in June.”
Other solutions include traffic calming measures, a 20mph speed limit and extending yellow lines from the junction with Garden Road.
A feasibility study by Essex County Council will be carried out into all the proposals.
Town councillor Iris Johnson, who helped work on solutions to the traffic problems in the road, said she would welcome a crackdown.
She said: “It can only help, I think we have got to put it in front of people.
“I am very optimistic at this stage. It always depends on the funding at the end of the day, but it cannot cost much to add a few more lines.”
Caroline Haynes, principal of Tendring Technology College, gave a stern warning to car users at the school to stay within the rules.
She said: “A short walk from a safe and legal parking place may help enhance the reputation of the college with our neighbours.”
