A COLCHESTER doctor is setting off later this month to tackle the highest peak in the Arctic.
Dr Tino Solomon, who is based at Colchester General Hospital, will also be attempting some previously unconquered mountains.
During the 22-day trip to the Watkins Mountains, in east Greenland, the 27-year-old will also be acting as expedition doctor.
His party includes mountaineers and extreme skiers, as well as polar explorers. It is a commercial expedition, although he will be using it to raise money for charity Interplast.
It provides free reconstructive plastic surgery for the poor in developing countries.
Dr Solomon said: “The reasons why these peaks have never been climbed before is mainly due to their geographic isolation and extreme climate.”
