Protest over lap dance club

EROTIC dancing could be coming to a Colchester nightclub.

Memories, in St Botolph’s Street, is up for sale, and being marketed with potential as the town’s only lap dancing venue.

But there are fears an adults-only club will scupper council plans to improve the area.

If the plan goes ahead, it will be the first lap danceclub in Colchester since Club Florin, in Magdalen Street, closed.

Everyone to their own!
Personally I wouldn't go there but I see no reason to stop it on the grounds that it is a lap dancing club. Of course those who don't like this sort of thing always have a choice.

On the other hand careful consideration should be given to the location of such a club. Local residents must have a say in what happens in their neighbourhood.

If residents object then the council should take heed of what they say...but unfortunately getting the council to listen is usually has hard as pushing water up hill.

I dont see what the problem is. Its behind closed doors and its probably no worse than all the tarts who go to Liquid wearing next to nothing and flaunting it all off.

Have to agree with Enforcer. As long as its consenting adults behind closed doors ,who are we to judge.
I see worse than what will go on in there ,outside my home every Fri and Sat night with underage teenagers tanked up on cheap booze doing goodness knows what.
Live and Let live.

Put the lap dancing club in the unfinished VAF. Or would this scupper council plans to improve the area that currently houses the biggest waste of space and money in Colchester in living memory?

Obviously the Gazette doesn't feel to badly about this. To the right of this box as I speak there are adverts for Pole Dancing lessons and Pole Dancing poles! Shall we ban the Basildon Gazette too?

It also says Ads by Google.

If residents complain???? Just a quick question to Say It AS It Is, trust me my friend, have a trip down Queen Street at 2:15am on a friday & Saturday night & a lap dancing club will be the least of your worries, the road is like a battle ground at chav central, people being attacked outside kebab shops, cars being kicked, police wrestling people to the ground... the list goes on. A lap dancing bar is the smallest problem to hit Queen st\ St Bots.

Going back to the headline.........wha
t protest? or is the gazette issuing an instruction in the hope of a news item?

Lisarevell, Colchester says...

This is my parents nightclub and THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE A LAP DANCING CLUB! The writers of the Gazette should get their facts right before writing made up stories about local business owners! No need to protest!!!!

Cliff, Colchester says...

Has the Gazette no control over it's web pages? The fact that the ads are by Google is totally irrelevant. Anyway, glad to hear from Lisarevell that it's not true.

"EROTIC dancing could be coming to a Colchester nightclub. "

It's already been and gone, just up the road was Angels which is now bollywood nights. I don't remember complaints then.

If there is a demand then let it be so. I don't think that the demand is there, as a previous such venue at the old Prince of Wales pub failed miserably. I can't see the average Colchester Friday night binger paying good money for that sort of thing. They would rather be out in the street having a punch-up and baiting the police. But isn't it sad that Colchester has spiralled downwards like this. Our night-time economy has brought disgrace to us all and misery to those who live in the town. It must be terrifying for overnight visitors to the town. We have over 600 licenced premises now, where not so many years ago we barely had 100, all well managed by our publicans, in turn closely controlled by the magistrates. What have we done to ourselves?

The adverts are delivered by a third party i.e. Google which the Gazette gains revenue from. Click on any report and you'll find advertisements related to the story. This helps keep the website free for users and helps exiles keep in touch with the news and sport in NE Essex. Get over the Basildon angle, we've all had to tighten our belts.
P.S. Lisa can't you get your parents to change their minds? They've already had free advertising (not delivered by
Google I might add).

There really is no need for such a club..for those who feel inclined for this sort of thing, go stand in the High Street on a Fri/Sat night and within half an hour i can guarantee something similar will stumble/crawl/vomit it's way to you.

I am personally disgusted at all the hype concerning this story .First of all there should be no protest because the club WILL not be a lapdance club so if anymore people want to protest then please protest over something important like war issues or something , i suggest everybody jus lay off this club and let them operate as normal , am quite sure colchester had a lapdance club at some point but i never heard of any 'protests' ... i suggest we jus get back to our normal lives because you been told .... THE CLUB IS NOT FOR SALE !!! Prince N.O.D

There used to be a lap dancing club just off St Botolphs roundabout. And no one thought twice about it. I know plenty of people who went there. Not perverts. Just ordinary people who enjoyed watching what in effect is no different to the strippers you used to get in pubs on a Sunday lunchtime.

Shock? Horror? Hardly!

Would just like to say thanks to Prince and Chika, and to all the reasonable people who understand that this story has no credit!!! MEMORIES IS NOT FOR SALE NOR WILL IT EVER BE A LAP DANCING CLUB!!! And to Feisty CBC - I dont think that this is the type of 'free advertising' that anybody would want.

ExPatNortholtGirl, Colchester says...

Hi Feisty. Thank you for the welcome back. I didn't realise I'd been gone! I do leave the odd comment here and there.

And to Lisa, I'm glad that your club's not for sale. It just shows you how a story can be produced out of nothing. It must be frustrating to have rumours spread as fact.

Well I think the Gazette should start a campaign. It worked with the footie ground. LOL
