YOUNG patients at Colchester General Hospital got a New Year treat with a special visit from the cast of the Mercury Theatre’s pantomime.
They arrived at the children’s ward, along with the Williams and Griffin Santa and Jet the elf, with a sack full of goodies collected from the store’s toy department before Christmas.
For the last 17 years the two organisations have provided a bit of added sparkle and festive fun by delivering a selection of toys suitable for the young patients who are unfortunate enough to be in hospital over the Christmas and New Year break as well as a special present for the ward itself.
Lynda Pearce, matron for children’s services, said: “We would like to thank the Mercury Theatre and Williams and Griffin for their continuing support of the children’s ward and children’s day unit at Colchester General Hospital.
“They have been visiting us in costume for many years now and it is always enjoyed and appreciated by the children, parents and staff."
