FIRE crews were called to the aid of an elderly horse which had collapsed in its paddock.
Solar, a pure-bred Arabian horse, fell against his stable at the back of a home in Thorpe Road, Kirby Cross.
Two fire crews and a veterinary surgeon were called to the aid of the large animal, which is more than 15 hands high.
Kelly Duffy, 31, who has owned Solar for 17 years, thanked the firefighters, vets, husband Gerry and friend Michelle Adams for their help during the incident.
A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said two crews from Frinton and Colchester were called to the scene at 8.30am on Friday and stayed with the animal until vets arrived.
