Clacton: Christmas spirit of anonymous donor

AN anonymous donor has handed patients and staff at a Clacton day centre an extra special new year, with a bumper bundle of goodies worth thousands of pounds.

The package, which featured a 42-inch LCD TV with DVD player and DVDs as well as a Nintendo Wii and games, has been given to the St Helena Hospice Day Centre in West Avenue by a competition winner from Clacton.

The well-wisher had won first prize in the Hallmark Cards “Win a Morrisons Christmas” competition, after purchasing a card at Morrisons in Harwich and writing to say why he or she deserved to win the competition.

They then decided to donate everything, also including a food hamper, crackers, party drinks and a £100 Morrisons voucher, to the hospice.

Chris Hill, director of fundraising and marketing at St Helena Hospice, said: “We are overwhelmed by the donation of these gifts.

“We would like to thank Hallmark Cards and Morrisons, and also send a special thank-you to the generous prizewinner who has given this incredible bounty to us.

“I know that the gifts will be really appreciated by the patients, families and children who use our services in Clacton, and I can’t imagine a better Christmas gift for us to have received.”
