North Essex: Hunt for vandal with strange fetish

PENSIONERS say they are being tormented by vandals with a “fetish” for knocking down walls.

Lorna and Allan Blackmore, of Ramplings Avenue, Great Clacton, say the wall at the front of their house has been damaged three times in the last 18 months.

They say other residents in their road have also been affected.

They claim the problem has been going on for almost two years and that police have been unable to catch the person doing it.

Mrs Blackmore, 70, said: “Somebody in Clacton has got a really strange fetish – they go along and knock the top of people’s walls off, or knock them down.

“Most of the people on the road are pensioners and it is a job for us getting the insurance in.

“I thought the first time that it was an accident, and I had the surveyor in and he said, ‘That has been wrenched’.

“Many people on the road have been affected.

“I have been leaving bedroom lights on to make them think there is someone in.

“What sort of person is it?

“Whoever it is, they are just getting a thrill out of knocking people’s walls down.”

Mrs Blackmore said she believed the wall attacks took place late at night.

Sgt Keith Sargeant, of Clacton police, said there had been incidents reported from numerous houses in the road.

He said: “No suspect has ever been seen, so it is probably happening late in the evening.”

He said all acts of vandalism should be reported to the police, and that if there were repeated problems, patrols would be stepped up in the area.
