A MAN ended up in court after calling a shopworker a Nazi, and then branding a sun-tanned police officer an “Arab”.

Police were called to Clacton’s Aldi supermarket after reports that a member of staff had been racially abused.

Terence Harris, 57, was outside after being asked to leave the store for twice calling a woman a Nazi, said Fiona Hardman, prosecuting.

The court heard he had used the slur against the same victim before.

“He always goes to the same member of staff at the till, even though there are other people available to serve him,” said Mrs Hardman.

“He also called one of the arresting officers an Arab due to the fact he had a sun tan.”

Harris, of Melbourne Road, Clacton, admitted racially- aggravated abusive behaviour following the October 4 incident but denied he was racist.

“I responded to the way they treated me,” he told Colchester magistrates.

“They shouldn’t have wound me up and pushed me over the edge.”

He was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £60 costs.
