A tugboat captain has sustained horrific leg injuries after an accident in Harwich Harbour.
Geoffrey Bull, a tug captain for Svitzer Towage, was about to board the Harwich Haven Authority launch Haven Harrier at Felixstowe when it is believed he became trapped between the vessel and the pontoon.
Mr Bull, who is in his 40s and from the Harwich area, was rushed to Ipswich Hospital by paramedics and had to have his lower leg amputated.
Mr Bull’s family said his condition was not life-threatening and that he was still recovering in hospital.
James Curry, managing director for Svitzer Towage, said he could not make any further comment. Harwich Haven Authority also did not wish to comment.
The accident is being investigated by the Marine Accident and Investigation Branch.
