A commuter who had his new bike stolen from a railway station is calling for better security.
David Bibby, of Chaucer Way, Colchester, had his £200 bike stolen on the first day he used it when he left it at Colchester Station.
The 42-year-old IT consultant, who works in London, wants to see more secure bike sheds at the station as well as better CCTV coverage.
He said: “I was just a bit annoyed as I had an old bike for a long time and put off buying a new one as I thought it would get stolen, and the first day I used it it was stolen.”
He added: “It’s not encouraging people to cycle if it’s so easy to steal people’s bikes.”
A spokesman for National Express East Anglia, which is responsible for the station, said there was no CCTV coverage at the bike storage areas, but it was working with the local authorities on improvements to cycle storage, as well as the British Transport Police and other partners over security.
Colchester was awarded cycle town status in July.
