A bride-to-be travelled more than 350 miles in her wedding dress with only £100 in the hope of winning the wedding of her dreams.
Sarah Sainsbury, 25, had no idea what she was letting herself in for after her fiance, Paul Hylton, persuaded her to enter a competition to win a £10,000 wedding on a radio station.
The Runaway Bride competition offered two brides the chance to compete for an all-expenses-paid luxury wedding by seeing how far they could travel in 24 hours with only £100 of emergency money.
After a series of interviews and public votes, Miss Sainsbury was stunned when her name and another bride-to-be were announced as competition winners.
Miss Sainsbury, of Mill House Cottage, Great Oakley, said: “It was announced on air which two brides had won and we literally went there and then, in our wedding dresses.
“We weren’t allowed to pre-plan or pre-book anything and we had no mobile phone. I was absolutely terrified but ecstatic.”
The couple are now planning to get married at All Saints Church, Great Oakley, on June 26, 2009.
