Clacton: Fireworks fright for grandmother

8:00am Tuesday 4th November 2008

A grandmother says she is frightened to sleep at night after pranksters posted a firework through her letterbox.

The 52-year-old was asleep in her flat in Warwick Road, Clacton, when yobs pushed the large Brightstar Atomizer firework through the letterbox in the early hours of the morning.

Her grandson, 11, her son, 13, and his 15-year-old friend were also asleep in the property at the time.

“I think it’s disgusting – they could have killed us,” said the woman, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.

Police crime reduction officer Colin Stiff hit out at the “irresponsible” yobs for putting lives at risk.

“There were three children in the home at the time and the potential implications of the incident are obvious,” he said.

Anyone with information about the incident in Warwick Road at about 3.30am on Saturday, should call police on 0300 333 4444.
