Colchester: estates set for days of action to make them safer place to live

Colchester estates will be targeted one by one in an attempt to clean up the streets and make the area a safer place to live.

A “day of action” on High Woods estate yesterday saw more than 70 people cracking down on issues including parking, litter and crime.

Police executed dozens of arrest warrants.

Street cleaners picked up litter, removed fly-tipped rubbish and scrubbed away graffiti.

Parking enforcement officers clamped illegally-parked vehicles, while police and fire service officers offered door-to-door safety advice.

Organised by Colchester Council, officers were supported by members of Essex Police, Essex County Council, Essex County Fire and Rescue, Colchester Borough Homes, the DVLA and the Environment Agency.

At the same time, the police announced that groups hanging around High Woods can be ordered to move on from today.

From 12.01am today, police have the power to move on groups of two or more people in a public place.

This can be done if officers feel the group’s presence or behaviour has led – or could lead – to members of the public being intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed.

"Now can we have all those knockers of my Brooklands come on and say,

Colchester has it's problems like any other town and it certainly isn't perfect and i think all decent Colchester residents know that but i'd take Highwoods over Brooklands any day. Brooklands and a lot of Jaywick along the sea wall is a tip now with burnt out chalets and dumped cars all over the place and not a safe place to be after dark and yes there are parts of Colchester the same but not Highwoods and i'm truely sorry to say that as i used to go a lot in my youth but because of the chalets( ex hoiday homes) being cheap it has brought in the "Wrong" sort of people who seem to have no respect for their neighbours. I only hope something changes and there is some decent amount of money pumped into the area as there some lovely beaches there and still some decent folk, some of whom are my friends!

Ok, as you havent got a clue what you are saying, i`ll help you out.
All them burnt out bungalows along Brooklands were demolished LAST YEAR.
ok, we have another since, but as it was under investigation, its now been boaeded up to health & safety guidelines.
next,
all them abandend cars.?
come on, have you not seen the price of scrap cars over the last few months...
ANYTHING that was metal, not wanted or needed was sold for scrap months ago, on its way to china, now proberbly on its way back as a new car or something.
We have Team Van Oord working on our beach NOW until Christmas, at a cost £millions...look it up online.

Really Mr poster, you need to become more realistic, up to date, and open your eyes more.

Guded tours can be arranged for those who need "help"

I admit i haven't been down to Jaywick for a couple of months now and i hope what you sat is correct, BUT, last time i drove down there, there must have been about 3-4 burnt out chalets along the strip. I am sorry but how ever you paint it, the place it a complete and utter MESS! Feel free to take a guided tour of Colchester on one of our open top buses, then maybe i'll take a tour of downtown Jaywick in an ARMOURED VEHICHLE!

Presumably so that the goverment can claim that these areas are officialy nice areas to live in and raise the council tax as they are proposing to do.

Ivan, don't worry, it's never likely to apply to you.

I wish to make an apology, to anyone who happens to be a teenager, and has the misfortune to live on Highwoods. As of today a ‘dispersal notice’ has been served on your part of town, I wasn’t responsible, but as I come from the generation, that sees your generation as ‘up to no good’ if you congregate in groups of more than two, I have to bear my part of the blame.

Of course my generation will tell you that it applies to all regardless of age, but don’t expect to see the mums outside the primary school being told to move along, or the OAPs having a natter after they’ve got their pensions.

No I’m afraid this is a law made with just you in mind. If you and a group of friends decide to walk home together from school, just make sure you do it ‘two by two’ from now on. The good news is that if your mum sends you to Tescos to get a pint of milk, tell her you can’t do it after 9.00 otherwise you might get picked up by the Police and brought home.

Of course your mates in other parts of Colchester can get together in a group whenever they like, for now at least.

So why are my generation doing this to your generation? Well you see, as far as we are concerned you teenagers are all the same, we don’t want to accept that like the rest of us there are good and bad. Stupid isn’t it? Imagine the outrage if they banned all men from going to pubs, because some of them got drunk and started fights!

I wish it was different, I know that most teenagers are like most other people, mainly good, with a few bad apples. So please bear this in mind over the next six months, and please try not to let this cloud your view of the Police, there are good and bad amongst them aswell. Above all remember what it was like to be a teenager in Highwoods, and when you get the chance to vote, make sure it counts!

i think the new law is really about a night-time curfew.so,the party's over for the boy-racers? newtown residents will sleep better & their house-values may increase.highwoods-e
rs are only economic survivors from greenstead.ok,there'
s a few commuters there in luxury houses;where the country-park remains their only dream of an idyllic life-style.the next step should be to impose all-out curfews on teenagers;from 9pm.

Thanks for asking feisty.
if you mean the large house at the bottom of Vauxhall Ave,
after a false start in re roofing it, and all the internals, its now been done.
I have no idea why work has been stopped on the outside.
Perhaps a quick call to Planning @TDC will help you.
