A PAIR of young women have represented Colchester in the battle to become Miss Essex FM.
Despite not winning the overall accolade Rachael Bilby and Natasha Lam still did the town proud as they competed in the final of the commercial radio station’s competition at a Basildon nightclub, helping to raise £25,000.
Hundreds of entrants were whittled down to 24 finalists who had to try and raise as much publicity for themselves and the station’s charity, Martin and Su’s Essex Kids.
The breakfast show pair also hosted the event at Liquid/Envy nightclub which was presided over by a panel of celebrity judges, including last year’s Big Brother winner Brian Belo and fellow former contestant Alex Sibley, during a series of rounds which included the girls in evening wear and being interviewed.
But Rachael, 19, who is about to embark on a university course, was named Miss Charity Essex FM after raising the most amount of money by arranging a black tie event.
Claiming the title was 21-year-old Melissa Amis, from Chelmsford, who scooped a modelling contract with BMA and will be the face of Essex FM.
