A FUNDRAISING drive has been given a much-needed boost after an anonymous benefactor donated money.
The management committee of the Ramsey War Memorial Hall were shocked and delighted to receive £200 from someone they believe to be a generous member of the village community.
The cash is being put towards vital repair work to fix a sinking floor at the hall, in Church Hill, Ramsey.
The secretary of the management committee, Mary Anne Bishop, said: “The floor was actually sinking so it wasn’t safe for dancing – it was still OK for meetings but not for everyone jumping up and down on it."
The repair work, which includes a full damp course and drainage improvements, has cost the committee about £5,700.
Members launched a major fundraising campaign after they were turned down for a lottery grant earlier this summer.
As well as the Ramsey village fete, the committee are holding a series of monthly bingo evenings to generate cash, with the first taking place at the hall at 7.30pm on September 12.
Tickets for the event cost £5 and cover the cost of a Ploughman’s supper and entry to a raffle.
They must be ordered in advance by calling 01255 880421.
