AN EPIC 875km bike ride will be tackled by eight Colchester firefighters to raise money for head and neck cancer research.
The group aim to cycle from Geneva to Nice, taking in some of the highest climbs of the Tour de France, in just seven days.
All eight are passionate cyclists and had been talking about undertaking a major challenge, but they then decided to turn it into a fundraising event as well.
The ride will raise money for the Head and Neck Cancer Charity, based at Royal Marsden Hospital, and begins on September 15.
The charity was chosen as Sue Nosworthy, wife of rider and Colchester Red Watch firefighter Steve, was diagnosed with cancer in October 2005.
Mrs Nosworthy said: “The Colchester firefighters have supported us as a family and have been there for us all on this difficult journey.”
Anyone interested in sponsoring the team, or finding out more about the charity, can visit hncrt.org
