A MILKMAN was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance in an unprovoked attack.

The 64-year-old was on his rounds in Victory Road, Clacton, when he was approached by a man.

The deliveryman – based at the Dairy Crest depot in the town’s Telford Road – suffered reddening to his face, but his glasses prevented more of the liquid going into his eyes.

Nothing was stolen and the assailant did not make any demands in what remains a puzzling incident.

The milkman was taken to to Colchester General Hospital, treated and released.

The attacker was described as being about 17, 5ft 6ins tall and wearing a horizontal striped hooded top.

Anyone who has information about the incident, which happened on Friday at 4.35am, is asked to call Clacton police on 0300 333 4444.
