Colchester, your soldiers need you!

A soldier's girlfriend has called for the town to rally round to support its troops in Afghanistan.

Carley Jee is looking to recruit a squad of people to sweep through the town centre dressed as soldiers, collecting donations of money and goods to send out to 16 Air Assault Brigade.

The 22-year-old, whose partner Daniel Scott is serving with 13 Air Assault Support Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, is planning the operation for July 5.

"With the five lads dying from 2 Para, it really brings home the danger they are in, and I'm sure Colchester will join us in showing its support," she said.

As well as sending welfare packages to soldiers, Carley will be collecting money for Help for Heroes, which is raising money for improvements to the military's Headley Court rehabilitation centre in Surrey.

To get involved, call Carley on 07930 546418.
