North Essex: revolt over country garden homes

FURIOUS residents hope a last-ditch protest will stop developers from building homes in a village's back gardens.

People in Kirby Cross say backland development is rife.

The residents' association claims too many homes are being built in back gardens - classed as brownfield sites, the same as former industrial areas.

A plan for six bungalows in back gardens in Holland Road will go before Tendring councillors tomorrow.

Bob Gibbs, of Kirby Residents' Association, said: "This is backland development of the worst kind."

John Spencer, of developer Lamaid Estates, has said the plans meet the criteria of the planning department and that the residents from whom he bought the land were happy with the development.

The planning meeting, which is open to the public, is at Weeley council offices at 7.30pm tomorrow.
